Douglas M. Seaton

Managing Principal

Douglas M. Seaton specializes in public finance and strategic consulting.  He has been the director of KnoxSeaton's public finance practice since 2004, serving as bond counsel, disclosure counsel, bank counsel and underwriters’ counsel for general obligation, airport, transportation, water and sewer, school district, single/multifamily housing, stadium, special assessment and industrial development bond financings.

He is experienced with a variety of financing techniques such as BABs, QSCBs, auction rate bonds, variable rate bonds, advance/current refunding bonds, certificates of participation and derivatives.

Before practicing law, Mr. Seaton taught mathematics and computers to inner city students in New York City.

Mr. Seaton backpacked around the world for a year by himself, interacting with people of various cultures in 19 countries on six continents, while drafting a manuscript on his travels.

Mr. Seaton has served as a Trustee of the Miami Museum of Science and Planetarium and on the Executive Committee of Leadership Miami, a program developed by the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce to foster community involvement in young professionals. 

Throughout his career Mr. Seaton has had a keen interest in helping children.  He has served as a counselor for the Flatbush Boys and Girls Club, youth group director for the Community Church of Douglaston, mentor at the Dunbar Elementary School in Miami, and as a volunteer youth soccer coach for the Village of Miami Shores. 

Mr. Seaton has also served on several Hands on Miami work days, volunteered with the Haitian Political Asylum Clinic, and Hollis Presbyterian Church Homeless Men’s Shelter.

Mr. Seaton received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tufts University in 1991, majoring in Psychology and his Juris Doctor from the Hofstra University School of Law in 1995.  Mr. Seaton is a member of the Florida Bar, the New York Bar, and District of Columbia Bar.  Mr. Seaton is also a member of the National Association of Bond Lawyers.

Mr. Seaton is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi, Fraternity Inc.

Mr. Seaton is married with two daughters and a son.
